Microsoft did the right thing, and the Xbox One reveal was perfect because of that. For the first time mainstream media, and casuals understood a game console early before hitting the market. They understood a games console‘s value before they saw any games. They saw gaming graduate to a new level. From USA Today to Bloomberg news. The impact of the Xbox One’s reveal is being felt before E3 2013. That’s huge, and gamer’s are missing the entire point of what Micorosoft’s reveal was about yesterday. It didn’t matter that Microsoft has said. Gamer’s didn’t hear a word. It didn’t matter how clear the reveal was about. That fact that  it’s focus was all about the Xbox One’s reveal. Gamers are showing the rest of the world that we are whinners who want to be heard, but don’t listen. Sounding like we don’t understand the world around us, are truly a disconnected bunch, and who are marginalizing ourselves. The saddest part is that by not listening, gamer’s are showing that gaming can’t grow. What’s ironic is that it was never like this. The reactions that gamers are having on forums, twitter, and other places makes them look really like a garrish mob. What’s even more crazy is that Sony set the standard for pushing entertainment beyond games with their consoles. Microsoft choose to use E3 for what it is meant to be used for. Gaming…So why are gamers surprised that a game console should have features that entertain along side your gaming experience? Hear me out, because we gamer’s are losing respect, as well as relevance because we are not listening.

Publishers, developers, community managers, and forums the world over have all been places where gamer’s go to be heard. Feedback in gaming is critical for a company in the game industry to succeed. We get to make an impact, because those who create games at heart are gamers. So they for the most part know where we are coming from.  For the first time ever after Microsoft’s reveal yesterday. It’s time us gamer’s started listening. When Sony released the Playstation 2 years ago, one of the most touted assets that pushed the console mainstream was not gaming related. DVD play back. It was a revolution in entertainment. It was the biggest future proof feature that allowed the system to be not only being a great gaming device, but a house hold entertainment device as well. Offering technology that both Sega, and Nintendo did not have in their dedicated game consoles. Sony sent out mixed messages, stating that the PS2 was a computer not a gaming console. Conflicting with what a game’s console should be. Despite the shaky messaging,, lack of games in it’s early launch days. The Playstation 2 went on to sell well over 100 million consoles, and served as a great console and entertainment device. Despite showing off computer generated trailers passing them off as games the system would create. This continued with the PS3 when Sony placed Blu Ray, which is now the standard over it’s rival HD-DVD. In fact the Playstation 3 has been the preferred console of choice for those watching Netflix. In fact Sony for part of this current genration has pushed 3D television as an advancement in both entertainment and gaming. Where you could buy, and play games with 3d glasses. What I’m getting at is Microsoft is only doing what has been done to give gamer’s, and casuals in the living room more entertainment value. That was the purpose of the Xbox One’s reveal. Did gamer’s listen or are they hearing what they want to hear?

Before Microsoft had their reveal Sony had their conference in February which was a hodge podge of information, and showcase of what the Playstation 4 would be about. At the same time many questions such as price, the system showing, and questions about used games, pricing for online access, and how the system would evovle with Gaiki were all left without answers. Mircrosoft made it very clear that the biggest gaming event on the planet…E3 2013 would be all about games as the reveal was to let us in on what they felt would be advancement in our consoles as an entertainment hardware, and service. Having a sense of history about gaming, listening as a gamer, and understanding that E3 is all about games. Seeing Microsoft get back to basics made E3 more valuable. Not to mention that they stated 15 core exclusive games would be released in the first year of the Xbox One. From the rants and ravs gamers clearly not listening. The worst part is that the mainstream audience heard it. The worst part is you have journalists also either perpetuating there will not be games, or glossing over the reveal. There has also been a total omission of Major Nelson‘s sit down with the team that developed, and worked on the Xbox One. Who have stated unequivocally that the Xbox One is a gaming device that merges entertainment into a new form unlike what we have seen, but at the same time marries the tradition of gaming as we have known it as gamers. Are gamer’s listening? Why are they hearing something else? Or are they ignoring the truth on purpose?

What I heard along with many others was a perfectly short reveal that was focused on revealing a new console without mudding up the conversation that should be had during E3. Games, games, games and more games. So called gamer’s who have forgotten this or are hyperventilating really are making true gamer’s look like a mob of head scratching monkeys. Microsoft’s Xbox reveal may have been boring I agree, but was this not how portions of a their recent E3′s have been? Microsoft has been using E3 as a crash test dummy for non gaming news, and badly.  This was the perfect way to get all non related gaming info out the way. This has less to do with which system you prefer, ok it does, but honestly do gamer’s really believe Microsoft won’t show up with games? Or are those screaming not really gaming in the first place? Has Microsoft not sold many games this gen with the Xbox 360? Are not some of the most played games on that platform? Why Microsoft not want to continue their success on Xbox One? Yes, Microsoft has to bring the rain, and they stated this clearly. Gamer’s didn’t listen.

I know, I know Microsoft showed us the Xbox One in a reveal that was vanilla. They stood up, and gave the mainstream world a very nice cradle rock, while leaving gamer‘s confused, and at a loss in translation. Except they told everyone that today on May 21st it was all about the Xbox One’s features and the future of Entertainment. Still, gamer’s wanted more. Not just a reveal of Forza Motorsport 5 which was predictable in terms of it’s showing, and if it had been any other racer say Project Gotham 5 people would have given it a bit more love. Did Microsoft shot itself in the foot? Yes, to a certain extent. I don’t think they could help themselves. At the same time this serves as a lesson. Do better with a spectacle, and be unique in your message approach. Not in terms of the intention; because for all intents and purposes the Xbox One reveal did its job. They just didn’t nail the swag/sexy is all. The saving grace for gamer’s comes in two forms; #1 E3 2013 is in 19 days, #2 the real reveal happened after everyone at Microsoft left the stage, Spike TV went away with it’s broadcast, and Major Nelson sat down with minds behind the Xbox One. This my friends is the definitive reveal of the Xbox One.

The panel that Major Nelson held with the creators, designers, and developer of Forza games series really spoke in detail about what gamer’s wanted to hear. Right now though, if you go to most sights on games outside of the mainstream press. They are flamming Micorosft saying that the Xbox One reveal was a wash. For the first time in gaming history, the mainstream press actually got gaming right in terms of coverage, and game journalisim dropped the ball. It’s our job to cover the issues in gaming in a way that paints a totally landscape of what our form of Entertainment is all about. We are the clean up guys when it comes to informing the public. Doesn’t mean being a fanboy or anything, but we are supposed to articulate what we are seeing. At the same maybe the way Microsoft sent out the message was bad? Many journalists as well as gamer’s walked confused with more questions. At the same time that can’t be right, especially when Microsoft told the world that E3 2013 was all about the games for Xbox One, and this was a reveal, not a conference.  Gamer’s want to be heard so bad, and our gaming press caters to that, but today marked the first time we the gamers and press needed to listen.

Xbox One’s Live TV service is an ambitious content model. Offering unprecedented entertainment meant for gaming consoles. In fact it’s the type of thing that will seperate it from not just competitors like Sony, Google, Apple, and Samsung; but Hollywood as well. The first example of this will be a Halo TV series. Unfortunately the service  will only be available in the United States at launch, with Microsoft ‘anticipating a global reach over the cycle time of Xbox One. The Xbox One will be similar to the PlayStation 4 with it’s “Share” functionality. Xbox One will record a great amount of recent gameplay. Gamer‘s will be able to edit, and share through social networks and on Xbox Live. So services like Skype that were showcased in todays’ reveal will be used more often by gamer‘s. Judging by the way games like Call of Duty, and Gears were played or titles like NBA 2K. It’s going to be constant that you see social gaming at the forefront of content creation online. This in addition to using video to chat in whatever manner they want. Social gaming is here in a big way. At the same time never hurting their game playing session. Microsoft says the new multiplayer system is an overhaul in terms of engineering. The technology is allows for the first of it’s kind in terms DVR capability for games. The next innovation has to do with a technology called Smart Match.

Xbox One use Smart Match that is “advance algorithms” which allows the pairing of  players  in areas of their skill, language, and reputation.  Microsoft’s Smart Match takes things several steps forward by eliminating the wait of being in a pre-match lobby. You can be watching TV, browsing the net, catching up on Sports Center, and Smart Match will be working in the background quickly finding you gamer’s to play against. Coinciding with significant changes to Xbox Live structurally, functionally, and visually.  For Xbox One Microsoft is expanding your friends list to 1,000 that is a significant upgrade from the 100 you get now on the Xbox 360. This is an example of how cloud gaming will play a significant role in Xbox One games being fresh, and features really being part of the experience in a rich way.

Microsoft is overhauling Xbox Live and its feature-set for the Xbox One. The company broke out and explained a number of these changes today following this afternoon’s reveal event. Gamers are getting an update to achievements that will be meaningful by going “across games, and other experiences”; allowing gamer’s to gain achievement points in new ways that are not just game relate. Developers will be able to add new achievement at any time they like. So imagine for a second you are in a game tournament that is sanctioned by a developer. They could theoretically set up game achievements set strictly for the tournament. Adding a whole new layer to competitive play that does not exist on any platform currently.”Our new achievements portal not only keeps track of what you earned, but how you earned it, so it’s more personal than ever,” Microsoft said. “It even lets you compare your achievements with your friends. Share your legacy and achieve greatness with Xbox One.”

The Xbox One Reveal today set some questions to the side, but in doing so proposed new ones. The major one is Cloud gaming. How would Microsoft use the technology, how will it be for gamers, and what types of services can be expected? Cloud gaming is not new, the current form we see it in ranges from online services, to smart phone applications. In the case of gaming on the current Xbox you can save your games to the cloud, outside of that use not much get’s done using it’s massive potential. Well the Xbox One is making it critical across the board to the point that the system will get more powerful over time allowing for a scalable console that won’t force gamer’s to always be online to.

Gaming in the Cloud for Microsoft means taking full advantage on every level of computing for the Xbox One. An ambitious undertaking. Microsoft has 15,000 servers worldwide, with an infrastructure that has/is being built as we write this post. The strategy can best be explained by Chad Gibson “In a nutshell, what we’re doing with cloud power is we’re allowing every game and application on this system to fully use cloud-compute resources,” said Chad Gibson, a principal group program manager for Microsoft. He continues by making a statement that is telling of the type of impact Microsoft wants to have with the developer community across the board. “We love in our developer conferences to ask the question to game developers, ‘What would you do with unlimited cloud computing for your game?’ There are a lot of transformative things that we want to do, such as allow large-scale systems to move to the cloud, such as artificial intelligence systems, allow more epic 100-person battles, allow more of this sort of concurrent permanent experience to happen in these games.” Microsoft is not making anything madatory, but offering a strong support of infrastructure, tools, and expertise to that allows developers to access cloud services. Examples such as larger scale games that are persistent in terms of world, adventure, and story where players are intergrated into a self contained universe that is constant like an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online Game). PC’s have had this for quite some time in their games. As something new to the console space the significance is huge because it is in the center of the family universe. The television.Gaming won’t be the only thing that the cloud will impact television, and communication is where the cloud will be pushed. For all intents a purpose cloud computing really can help with an interactive experience from a key central location in the home.

Detailing a bit more info on what cloud gaming means for the new Xbox One; Director of development Boyd Multerer in speaking with IGN pointed out, “You’ll still have a limited number of transistors in your house; in your box.”But the Xbox One is built to communicate with servers in the cloud to increase the computational potential of the system. Boyd continued “[As a developer] I can start doing things like shifting latency insensitive things to the cloud. You may have a limited number of transistors in your house, but you have an unlimited number of transistors in the cloud”

Today at 1pm eastern time, and 10am pacific time, Microsoft revealed their long awaited successor to the Xbox 360. Calling it a successor is in more ways then one an understatement (yes the puns were intended). We’ve heard rumor after rumor about what Microsoft would unveil, leaked sources from a year ago, and such all came to a head today. Most of the leaked information was correct in terms of what some of the core tech in the new console would hold, along with running joke names like Xbox 720. Well it is again a system with a number, but this time it’s One. That one can be read in many ways; like Xbox One =”Won”. Which is a moniker fanboys of other systems are not going to like hearing. Enough of that though, Let’s talk Xbox One hardware, and the reveal.

 The Xbox One console includes 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 8-core CPU, 64-bit architecture, a 500GB hard drive, slot loading Blu-ray drive, and every system includes Kinect 2.0 standard when you purchase the console. It is also coming out this year.  The Xbox One name is unique because from the looks of everything see in the reveal Microsoft went back to the first Xbox. Taking a more modest design, including functionality that would be mandatory for an Xbox experience, from Live to television, to cloud computing, and motion control into one unit. The first Xbox had a mandatory hard drive in every unit, along with broadband connectivity. This was a big step up from the competition. The Xbox One does this with cloud computing, motion control gaming, and entertainment as it’s focal point. Bulky like the first Xbox, the Xbox One was built to perform, and be a complete system day one. So the “One” idea is not only inference to the past, it’s also a play on words saying that Xbox as brand has “Won”. How, or what it has “won” will be the marketing story of the next generation concerning the system, and it’s legacy. So far though It’s a powerful system, capable of competing with what Sony‘ has announced with the Playstation 4.

We know comic book movies are all the rage these days, but there have been some notable sci-fi movies popping up as of late that have brought the genre back. Tom Cruise was pretty good in “Oblivion” which surprised many with both it’s action, and emotional grit. Tom didn’t suffer the usual same character syndrome he has when a you can’t distinguish his characters from the man himself. Add to the fact that I’m really looking forward the new Will Smith movie that has his son Jaedan Smith as the main lead role; Granted it’s a coming of age/warrior journey film. The premise of an earth that has evolved after man has left does bring a new twist to the apocalyptic themes that have pervades sci-fi futures of Earth. So the question now must be asked are there other Sci-fi films we need to be on the look out for? You bet you photon phaser, laser, waser itellporter you do.

For this particular post here are five movies you can take a look now. All of which take you on a different, but unique journey of story telling. All done in a way that is sheik, mesmerizing, and heavily invested in story that does not take away the spectacle of sci-fi wonderment.

Yes, the leaks they-a-keep-on-coming. Call of Duty: Ghosts is on deck with several images that appeared on the wiki page of the game showcase the squad you will lead. No other  info has dropped, so I guess this is just a feast for your eyes. With Call of Duty being one of Activision’s biggest titles, and Microsoft’s next Xbox reveal a week a way, along with E3 2013 19 days after. It’s safe to say that the hype train for all things gaming is moving along to full speed. Can’t wait to see what drops for the rest of the week.

The atmosphere blends in with a solid environment of ancient vine-covered ruins doting the landscape. You can tell that time and effort was put into making the game allows players to be immersed visually. The object of the game is to match three balls of the same color in a line to have them removed from the board. Players must make matches over titles on the board to clear them. By clearing all brown squares in each level you proceed. You get three game modes: action, puzzle and Zen. All three modes are different, with 70 levels to play, and each one unique; gamers will be occupied for a bit.
