Developed & Sponsored By Capcom: The Drake Vs Lil Wayne Tour App

Let me give you a quick history lesson. Hip-hop‘s rise over the years has been parallel to that of gaming as an entertainment form. Both started in the late 60’s with little increments of technology, and experimentation. Both hit a golden age during the 80’s and 90’s that reverberate across cultures, gender lines, and impressionable moments that have made them the forms of entertainment that are signatures of today. Capcom is one of the most storied developers/publishers in the world. The Street Fighter franchise by them has a well established history with gamers, and the mainstream public on the same level as some of the worlds most storied brands. Capcom has always been on the forefront of doing things differently in terms pushing gameplay, but they have not always done so on the marketing or branding side. Not to say they don’t have a bit of history, they tend to play it safe. Well, that all changed this weekend as Drake Vs Lil Wayne Tour App was revealed to be developed by Capcom. (more…)

Without a doubt Broforce is a throwback to a time where action shoot up games where king, and absolutely relentless in you being able to have fun shooting. The original “dude bro” games if I may be so liberal to use the term in such a manner was the standard in arcades. It seems what’s old is new again, and the success of Broforce is a testament that gamers love great games. As gaming gets its just mainstream due, Hollywood is taking notice in terms of branding. The Expendables 3 is the perfect mash-up  of marketing with a cross media product that fits. What do you get with this alignment? “The Expendabros” Demo. (more…)

Nintendo’s Wii U platform does not have tons of great momentum going for it. The next gen console has not been able to live up to Nintendo’s expectations as well as gamers. So every piece of encouraging news about the platform getting better in some way is a highlight worth talking about. For instance, Mario Kart 8 has been one of the best selling games across consoles since it’s release several months ago on the Wii U. Such a success that many are giving the Nintendo Wii U a bit more love and consideration. To commemorate this Nintendo has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz for a DLC package that allows gamers to use Nintendo characters driving in the vehicles of the German luxury car brand. You can see what the gameplay is like in our video. (more…)

Is Pharrell Williams The Right Person To Helm The NBA 2K15 Soundtrack?

The last year was absolutely spectacular for Pharrell Williams. Not to say his revitalized appeal with the world has ended, Pharrell is an interesting place. He’s popular again. Not just in the casual way where people know you everywhere you go. No, more in the sense of your popularity mattering to what people think, and feel of your influence. As a result Pharrell has been invited by 2K Sports to helm the seminally and most critically acclaimed sports video game NBA 2K series. The question I have is this…Is Pharrell Williams the right person to curate the soundtrack? (more…)

Batman: Arkham Knight Is The Next Level For Comic Video Games & Licensing

Batman is the defacto king of quality comic book licensing. By far Warner Bros/DC have been able with some missteps over the years to make Bob Kane, and Bill Finger‘s character one of the worlds most qualitative intellectual properties to license. Batman crosses gender lines, nations, and most important demographics that measure IP‘s. In terms of gaming Batman has some classic outings under his utility belt; this is over several gaming generations. Amazing. Recently Warner Brothers who has taken direct stewardship by developing game titles in house. Their partnership with the developer Rocksteady was one of the smartest moves in game publishing in the past two generations. Rocksteady have been able to create a game trilogy that stands toe to toe with any of the most important gaming franchises of our time.  The game play and identity of the “Arkham” series is a landmark achievement that set’s a high standard in gaming.  From the Sega Mega Drive‘s Batman to titles like “Batman: Bold and The Brave” for the Nintendo Wii; the storied character has done by far the best of any comic book to game character.
